The systems analyst in the traditional business.

 

Every business organizes itself uniquely. But certain patterns of organization seem to reoccur. In the traditional business, information services are centralized for the entire organization or a specific line of business. Figure 1.2 is an organization chart for our traditional information Services unit.

 

In this organization, information services reports directly to the chief executive officer or the chief executive for a line of business. The highest ranking information officer is a vice president, sometimes called a chief information officer.

 

This places information services at the same level of importance as the traditional business functions. The rest of information services is organized according to the following functions or centers:

*  Systems & applications development

*  Data administration

*  Telecommunications

*  End user computing

*  Computer operations
